LPMS Cheerleaders Strut Stuff At NFL Experience

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Middle School cheerleaders took second place at the NFL Super Bowl Cheerleading and Dance Competition on Jan. 24 in Tampa. The event, which was hosted in conjunction with the NFL Experience, was designed to give local dance and cheer teams an opportunity to showcase their talents in a fun and positive atmosphere. The LPMS cheerleaders spent many hours practicing before the big day, and were thrilled when their efforts paid off.

After the competition, the cheerleaders attended a cheer clinic where they were treated to some surprise guest speakers and performances. Cheerleaders from the University of Tampa gave them some cheer pointers, while Tampa Bay Buccaneer players Chris Bladwell, Geno Hayes, and Josh Johnson taught them running drills.

There were also special appearances by Olympic gold-medalist Shawn Johnson, driver; Audrey Zavodsky, the Tampa Bay Bucs Cheerleaders and the New Orleans Saintsations.

Zavodsky, a corporate nurse with Ford's Clinical Operations Department and one of the few female professional drivers on the Grand Am circuit, spoke to the cheerleaders in attendance and stressed the importance of education. She shared that she has always valued her own education and has her Doctorate degree in Business. She encouraged the girls to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and told them they should focus on keeping their bodies and minds in top condition.

Coach Lanier said that the girl's performance was terrific, and was proud of them for working together as a team. She also extended her thanks to Nicole Hansen, who volunteered her time to help with the choreography for the performance, and to the parent volunteers who helped chaperone the trip.

The cheerleading squad will be performing their award-winning routine on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Lake Placid Country Fair.
