Published: February 4, 2009

LAKE PLACID - Cheryll Arnold said this winter has been "pretty cold" in Mountain City, Tenn., and she is ready for a change.

"I need some warm weather," said Arnold, who co-owns, with her husband, Arnold's Art From The Heart in Mountain City, which is in the northeast part of Tennessee.

Arnold will be joining nearly 150 vendors for the Lake Placid Arts and Crafts Country Fair. The fair will be held Feb. 7 and 8 in DeVane Park, across from Lake Placid Town Hall. Hours will be 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. both days

Carol Mills, park chairwoman for the fair, thinks Arnold will get what she wants, as will those who plan to attend.

"It is supposed to be sunny and nice," said Mills, with temperatures in the 70s this weekend.

The Arnolds will be bringing their personalized Appalachian artwork to Lake Placid. They produce original paintings of general stores, cabins, outhouses among other things.

"Ours is unique in that every picture can be personalized," Cheryll said. "We have a little bit of everything."
Cheryll said they came to the country fair five years ago. She said they did well on the Saturday that year, but not on Sunday since the event was held the same weekend as the Super Bowl.

Burke and Carter Even of Lake Placid will have their fine art photography for sale. They do photography on canvas.

Carter said last year was the first time they participated in the country fair.

"It was very good," she said. "People remembered us from the Caladium Festival."

There were 10 vendor booths still available as of Monday, according to Mills. They range in size from 10 by 10 to 25 by 10. The fee starts at $60 and goes up to $135.

A total of 140 vendors had registered as of Monday.

"This is a big event for our area," Mills said. "We really get a good crowd."

Mills said coming to Florida in the winter appeals to the vendors. She added many of them know each other.

Mills noted there will be 15 food booths with churches and service clubs selling a variety of items.

Students and adults will be exhibiting crafts, clay, porcelain, wood crafts, needlecrafts, stitchery and fabric crafts, yard and cord crafts as well as other things at Lake Placid Elementary School during the weekend.

Vans will be available during the fair to take people from the elementary school to town hall and from DeVane Park to the high school parking lot.
