SEBRING - Despite a cold morning with a stiff wind making most of the holes playing extra long, the team of John Dean, Val Patarini, Charles Anderson and Dale Anderson managed to shoot a 13-under-par 59 to win the First Flight in Saturday's Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce Winter Golf Classic at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.

The one-day, 18-hole, four-person scramble event attracted 128 players, who braved the wintry conditions to support the Sebring Chamber of Commerce.

The tournament was played on the always demanding Deer Run course, where accuracy off the tee and into the greens is a necessity to score well.

Placing second in the First Flight with a 60 was the talented quartet of Bud Puffenberger, Marty Winslow, Terry Wagner and Richard Butler, after a match of cards with the team of Mike Browning, Mark Pinson, Brian Gjurgevich and Greg Knowles.

The Second Flight was won by Kenneth Dandenfan, Jimmy Acevedo, Larry Hennen and Tony Eklund with a 62.

Placing second in the Second Flight with a 63 was Jason Waller, Dave Marcum, Bill Davis and Harry Johnson, while Bonnie Lennox, Ron Lennox, Ronnie Sites and Mike Sayer came in third with a 64.

The Third Flight was won by the foursome of Rick Lewis, Joe May, Rick Ragland and A. Williams with a 67.

Placing second in the Third Flight with a 69 was the quartet of Gary Heinz, Dave Cox, Mike Lamp and Chris Buckalew, after a match of cards with the team of Pedro Martinez, Carlos Gonzalez, T.C. Lackey and Edie Lao.

The Fourth Flight was won by the team of James Lizotte, Richard Bursteyn, Wayne Phillips and Jerry Phillips with a 71, after a match of cards with the foursome of Tom Griffin, Jeff Carlson, Carl Cool and Greg Stupinski.

Coming in third in the Fourth Flight with a 74 was Ronnie Carter, Keith Carter, Jason Carter and Rae Carter.

Long drive winners in the First and Second Flight's were Bill Davis and Tobias Carlsson on hole No. 10.

Long drive winners in the Third and Fourth Flight's were Ronnie Carter and Larry White on hole No. 16.

Closest-to-the-pin winners in the first two flights were Tom Gamble and Bill Norcross on hole No. 9, while Bob Hykes won the third and fourth flights contest on hole No. 4.

The event was a fundraiser for the Sebring Chamber of Commerce.

"I thought the turnout was phenomenal with the weather the way it was," said Sebring Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Pallone. "We're very pleased and appreciative of the players and the sponsors."
