The Great Depression was not caused by business failure; it was a financial downturn that was mitigated by the government's reactionary and blundering response to the situation.
This resembles our situation today. Our government has not learned a thing from history, and it is on the verge of plunging us into another economic disaster because Congress doesn't have enough sense to study in depth and debate the pros and cons of bills that come before them.
How will they create another economic disaster for us?
Quite easily, by Congress passing the "Card Check" bill promulgated by the unions.
This can become reality as the unions spent a billion dollars putting their political friends into the Congress. This bill will do away with the secret ballot in any union voting. It is obvious that as a result, workers would be stripped of their ability to vote for or against union boss "representation" as in a secret ballot.
Once a majority of workers have signed cards, every worker would be automatically unionized and paying dues.
This could reach down to small businesses and family owned businesses. If these were to be organized, they eventually would be devastated by wasteful work rules, which would put them out of business. Such action would over time, wreck our fragile economy.
Our new president made the comment that the U.S. could lose "millions of jobs" next year; he is right. His agreeing on the "Card Check" bill and with the labor leaders and their congressional friends would make his prediction come true.
Why would these people do this to American workers and our fragile economy? They don't realize what they are doing; they don't care what they are doing or could they, after permanent political power?
As I said, the government's blundering reaction to situations causes 90 percent of this country's problems.
