LAND 'O LAKES - Hannah Shoop and Shannon Williams each had 10 points on Friday night, but a strong Land 'O Lakes squad handed the Sebring girls basketball team a 52-44 loss in the Blue Streaks' final regular season game of the year.

Emmanice McCullors added seven points, while Madison Rose chipped in six points and Zykeria Dawkins added five more.

The Streaks led 22-20 at the half after holding the Gators to six points in the second quarter, but Land 'O Lakes went on a run in the third and iced the game down the stretch by hitting 10 of 12 free throws in the final period.

"They're a good 5A school," said Sebring coach Mike Lee. "The girls played hard and it was a good game to prepare us for districts."

The Streaks open up Class 4A-District 10 tournament play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against Braden River at Avon Park High School. See Thursday's Highlands Today for complete coverage.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Okeechobee 46, Lake Placid 26

OKEECHOBEE - Jamacia Gaile scored a team-high 10 points and Sierra Weaver added seven, but it wasn't enough as Lake Placid lost to Okeechobee by a score of 46-26 in girls basketball on Friday night.

"We came out sluggish and got behind early," said Lake Placid coach Shonda Legree. "We played better in the second half, but never really got things going."

This was the Green Dragons last regular season game and next up is the Class 3A-District 10 tournament in Lake Placid.

LP plays Frostproof in the semifinals next Friday night at 7:30, a team the Green Dragons swept during the season.

"We're going to work hard in practice and get ready for Frostproof," Legree said. "We beat them both times during the season, but we can't take them lightly because anything can happen.

"We need to come out with a lot of intensity, get the fans into the game and take advantage of playing on our home court."
McKeel Academy plays Mulberry in the first semifinal next Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The championship game will be at 7 on Saturday night.
