SEBRING - The Sebring Police Department recently was notified that Cesar Mayo Lynch will serve 50 years in Mexico for his role in a 1998 Sebring double homicide.
A letter dated Nov. 20 was sent from the federal attorney general of Mexico's regional attache's office in San Antonio, Texas, stating Lynch, 31, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Nov. 15, 2006. He appealed to a higher court and the prison term was reduced to 50.
Lynch was one of four people charged in connection with the deaths of Jesus and Omar Sanchez, drug-dealing brothers from Wauchula.
Sebring resident Louis Clemente pleaded guilty in 2000 to orchestrating the double murder that stemmed from money owed in a drug deal, according to earlier Tampa Tribune reports. He received three life sentences.
Authorities say Clemente owed the brothers $35,000 for two pounds of methamphetamine they sold to him. He admitted to arranging for the men to be killed when he was unable to pay the bill, the reports stated.
Lynch and Jose Manuel Hernandez-Miranda were the two men Clemente reportedly paid $2,500 each to kill the Sanchez brothers.
In August 2003, Hernandez-Miranda was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences on charges of murder with a firearm, racketeering and drug offenses.
A fourth man, Hector Duran, Louis Clemente's uncle, was also charged in the murders. He was sentenced in March 2000 to 14 years in prison for his role, the reports stated.
The discovery of the bodies led to a multi-agency investigation, which included the Sebring Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the DEA, that saw the dismantling of a marijuana-meth drug ring that stretched from Sebring to Dade City.
More than 30 people involved in the drug ring were charged.
