What in the world is going on with our Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles? In this time of recession and terrible economy they are not only raising their fees for drivers licenses and vehicle registration, they're making ridiculous rules for identification when renewing our driver's license.
Isn't it enough to present the expiring license that has your name, address, date of birth, signature as well as a clear photo? Now they want us to bring a birth certificate (we have to prove we were born?) or a U.S. passport. Then to prove where we live, they want a utility bill, mail from a federal agency, or a Florida voter registration card (didn't those voter cards disappear years ago?) For crying out loud, aren't the driver's license clerks smart enough to look at the old license and see if the photo matches the person standing in front of them?
It's a shame that the state has allowed the DMV to practically double all the fees at a time when people can hardly make it from day to day paying for food, home maintenance, insurance, medical bills. Now they're making it more difficult to get a driver's license. What next?
