SEBRING - Law enforcement and fire officials think an attempt to hot wire and steal a truck led to an early-morning fire Monday in the 4000 block of Mondale Avenue.
Lorida Fire Chief Swen Swenson said flames completely engulfed a 2002 Chevy S-10 pickup truck before spreading to the nearby mobile home.
The home sustained some melted siding, but the damage was only minor, according to Swenson.
"The initial fire crews got a good jump on it," he said.
No one was home at the time of the fire. Swenson thinks the owners live up north and the Mondale Avenue trailer is their second home.
Lt. Gus Garcia, with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, said the state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Indications do point to a bad attempt at hot wiring the truck, according to Garcia.
