SEBRING - A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested Monday after reportedly stealing another man's pit bull at gunpoint.

The suspect was charged with robbery/home invasion with a firearm and grand theft of $300 or more but less than $5,000.
Highlands County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Blackman said Wednesday the animal hasn't been recovered and the theft apparently stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.

"The dog wasn't of high pedigree," Blackman said.

The juvenile went inside a home in the 4000 block of Granada Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Monday and told the victim to "give me your puppy or I'll shoot you," according to the arrest report.

In the suspect's hand was a semi-automatic handgun.

The dog was handed over and the juvenile left the house. The victim woke his father and told him about the robbery, the report stated.

They both went outside and saw a vehicle parked in front of the house with the juvenile and another unidentified person inside.

The victim said both of the vehicle's occupants had been by the house earlier, according to the arrest report.

He later did a drive by of the vehicle and positively identified the juvenile, his clothing and the vehicle.
