AVON PARK - Investigators continued their search Friday for the men who robbed Avon Park's SunTrust Bank branch Tuesday morning.
"Detectives are still diligently working on following up on some leads," said Avon Park Police Cmdr. Mike Rowan.
Rowan would not release any more specifics about the ongoing investigation.
On Tuesday at 9:43 a.m., two men armed with pistols walked into the lobby, took control of the bank and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Two employees were behind the counter at the time of the robbery and there was one customer inside, according to Rowan.
Within minutes, a silent alarm was activated and police and sheriff's deputies quickly moved into the area to search for the robbers.
Three K-9 units tracked in the area of Lemon Tree apartments, where the men had been seen heading toward. They were not found and Rowan thinks they got into a car and fled.
The men were listed as having dark complexions and wore dark sunglasses and hats while inside the bank.
Anyone with information about Tuesday's robbery is asked to call Avon Park Police Detective Sgt. Jason Lister at 863-453-6622.
