LAKE PLACID - A 28-year-old Lake Placid man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $160,000 bond today after Lake Placid police say he was arrested following his involvement with a teenage girl.
Julio Hernandez-Rojas, of 26 Observation Ave., was charged with committing a sex offense with a victim 12 to 15 years of age and cruelty toward a child by an act that could result in physical or mental injury.
According to the arrest report, the victim reported that on three occasions between Feb. 1 and April 27, Hernandez-Rojas "would find her" as she walked to school in the mornings and then took her to his residence where she reported they had "consensual sex."
She then stayed at his residence until school let out, about 3:05 p.m., the report stated.
Hernandez-Rojas denied having sex with the victim, but reportedly told police Det. James Fansler that he did engage in a sexual activity with the teen at her home.
The victim told Fansler that Hernandez-Rojas, who is a Mexican citizen, threatened to take her to Mexico away from her family, the report stated.
