LAKELAND - The Sebring baseball team struggled on the mound and in the field on Monday in an 11-2 non-district loss to Class 3A-District 10 power McKeel Academy.
"We didn't play very good defense or pitch very well," said SHS coach Hoppy Rewis, who noted the Streaks scored in each of the first two innings but were held off the rest of the game. "We gave them four unearned runs early and after that, it was errors, passed balls and hit batsman."
The Streaks, who host next week's Class 4A-District 10 tournament at Firemen's Field, got innings from Kevin Welborn, Sheldon Willams and Dustin Lang in preparation for a tourney run, though Rewis said none were as sharp as he'd like them to be.
"Hopefully, getting a few innings each gets them ready for next week," Rewis said. "Defensive lapses show up about once every two weeks, and it's going to be hard to get through the playoffs if they show up again."
The Streaks close out the regular season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, when they host Port St. Lucie.
