AVON PARK - With Julie Poucher named Highlands County Teacher of the Year and Doreen Pearlman named the county School-Related Employee of the Year, Park Elementary was represented in the top two honors at the School Board of Highlands County's annual Summit Awards.
"I learn from my students every day," Poucher said after Monday's award ceremonies at Avon Park High School. "I learn as much from them as they learn from me.
Poucher teaches a combined third- and fourth-grade Advanced Academics class.
Pearlman, a paraprofessional at Park Elementary for seven years, said "I'm in shock; I'm speechless."
The staff, students and community worked together to make her school great, she said. "So I didn't get this by myself; I had a lot of help."
Park Elementary Principal Brenda Longshore said "We are thrilled; so proud of them; they do such a fabulous job."
