ARCADIA - Senior right-hander Kayla Clemens scattered nine hits and struck out seven and Dino Lower clubbed a solo home run to lead Sebring to a 3-2 win over DeSoto in a Class 4A-District 10 softball game on Monday night.
"We played real well as a team," said first-year Blue Streak coach Joe Sinness. "Karrie Dudek made a couple of nice defensive plays and Wendy Negrin knocked in a run.
"It was a big district win for us and we put the ball in play tonight, but we left 14 men on base and we can't afford to do that and expect to win."
Sebring, which had 13 hits, scored two runs in the first and another in the second inning and Clemens made sure that was enough to get the hard-fought victory.
The win, which came after a week off for spring break, improved the Blue Streaks to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in district play.
"Kayla did a good job of throwing strikes and our defense came to play," said Sinness. "We played pretty well coming off spring break, but we need to bear down these next couple of weeks and get on a roll heading into the district tournament.
"We've battled through a lot of adversity this season, but we still have a chance to make a run in the postseason."
