LAKE PLACID - A Highlands County grand jury returned an indictment of first-degree murder Tuesday afternoon for a suspect charged with the death of a Lake Placid man.
Juan Carlos Morales, 30, of 541 Sun 'n Lakes Blvd., Lake Placid, remained in the Highlands County Jail Tuesday afternoon on a $452,000 bond.
Morales is charged in connection with the death of Michael Vernon Arnold, 29.
At 6 p.m., on Nov. 3, 2008, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office responded to 224 Deerwalk Ave., in Lake Placid after receiving reports of a shooting. They found the victim dead of a gunshot wound.
Morales reportedly used a shotgun to kill Arnold, according to the indictment.
The suspect has previously been arrested for causing cruel death, pain and suffering to animals, discharging a firearm in public, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill and battery on a law enforcement officer, according to information from the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.
