SEBRING - An arraignment date has been set for an Avon Park police officer who authorities think injured a 20-month-old girl while the infant was in his care.
James Hilton Parker III, 32, of Sebring, will appear before Judge Peter Estrada on April 27, according to records from the Highlands County Clerk of Courts. He is charged with first-degree aggravated battery on a child and remained in jail Monday on a $250,000 bond.
On March 29, the Highlands Regional Medical Center contacted the Highlands County Sheriff's Office about a toddler with multiple bruises on her body and an apparent skull fracture.
The child was being watched by Parker, who is the mother's live-in boyfriend, while she was at work, according to the sheriff's office.
On Monday, Maj. Mark Schrader said there has been no change in the infant's condition, which is very critical.
