AVON PARK - Sebring alumnus Adam Simmons struck out seven through six innings to pick up the win, while catcher Jerry Neufang hit his nation-leading 16th home run of the season to lift the South Florida Community College baseball team to a 6-5 victory over Hillsborough CC at Panther Field.
Neufang's shot was the 27th of his career, tying him for the most all-time for a Panther with Avon Park grad Ronnie Handley. Chaz Abeln and Austin Gaines also homered in the game, while Gaines earned the save with a strong final inning.
The Panthers (26-15 overall, 7-8 Suncoast Conference) now have the week off before hosting Pasco-Hernando CC on Saturday at Panther Field. Rotary will be serving a pork dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the game.
