SEBRING - It was a breakfast of scholastic champions.

Fred Wild Elementary School hosted a breakfast Monday for its students who earned top level scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Parents were also invited to the breakfast.

B.J. and Cindy Hamilton accompanied their 9-year-old daughter, Jessica, who is a fourth-grader and an advanced academics and gifted student.

She almost had a perfect score in math, B.J. said.

Cindy said Jessica gets mad when she doesn't have homework.

As she ate pancakes and sausage patties, Jessica said paying attention in class is the key to doing well in school.

Ellen Bracewell accompanied her son, Nathan Barouch, at the breakfast.

"He's just smart," Bracewell said.

Unlike Jessica, Nathan needs a little encouragement to do his homework.

"I stay on him about it," Bracewell said.

Nathan said "I can't get away without doing my homework."

Principal Laura Waldon said the 19 students who were recognized worked hard on their education to gain more knowledge.

Lake Placid Middle School Lunch treated 50 seventh- and eight-graders to lunch recently at the Golden Corral.

The students scored in the top level (Level 5) on the math or reading portions of the FCAT.

The school had 15 students who scored a Level 5 in both math and reading: Lucero Torres, Paul Bohlen, Cristian Resendiz, Scott Cantwell, Travis Baxter, Kevin Colley, Lydia Heyman, Kayleigh Moss, Felix Salazar, Alex Miller, Jeremiah Greenbaum, Amelia Troup, Edward Stephens, Robert Jennings and Stephanie Rodriguez.
