AVON PARK - There was plenty of community support for the Sheriff Susan Benton Fundraiser golf tournament on Saturday at Pinecrest golf club.
The one-day, 18-hole event used a four-person scramble format and the winners were decided after a match of cards.
The talented foursome of Bob Shepard, Joe Rafferty, John McLean and Ryan Magnuson came in with a net score of 53 and won the match of cards with the team of Dorrell Herron, Jim Whitney, Rick Burgess and Tom Simmons.
The foursome of Paul Morris, Glenn Hall, Keith Winslow and Charlie Damron finished third with a net score of 55.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Mike Secor on hole No. 5, Keith Winslow on hole No. 7, Bob Shepard on hole No. 10, and Wayne Gill on hole No. 12.
The proceeds from the event go to Sheriff Susan Benton's re-election campaign.
After the tournament, which attracted a nice field, a luncheon was held in the restaurant.
"It was a great day for golf and we had a nice turnout," said Pinecrest's director of golf John Vicker. "We had a nice lunch after the tournament and everything went smoothly."
