Avon Park Middle School Student Arrested

AVON PARK - A 13-year-old Avon Park Middle School student was in the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice after she reportedly kicked and hit a school official.

According to an Avon Park Police Department arrest report, at about 2:14 p.m. Monday, school resource officer Angelic Sanchez was alerted by radio for assistance handling a student causing a disruption during school hours as classes were changing.

What the student had done to get the attention of one of a dean of students was not included in the report.

Sanchez reported that as she arrived the student was pulling away from the dean and cursing at him, telling him she would beat him up.

"When I attempted to calm the situation down and escort her to the back office she pushed my hand away and yelled, "get the (expletive deleted) off of me, you (expletive deleted)," Sanchez reported.

When she tried to calm the girl down by talking to her, she tried to pull away again, the report stated.

Sanchez told the student she was under arrest for disruption and tried to place her in handcuffs. She began violently pulling and pushing away from her, Sanchez reported.

She pulled her Taser and told the student she would use it if she did not calm down. She was able to get the student handcuffed when a teacher's aide reported that she had hit and kicked him as he was trying to escort the unruly student to the office before she got there.

The aide said he would pursue criminal charges.

The child was booked into the jail and released to the custody her parent and given a court date from the State Attorney's Office.

A spokeswoman at the Clerk of Courts Office said Thursday that any further juvenile information cannot be released.
