SARASOTA - Avon Park senior Daija Barrett was a one-woman wrecking crew on Tuesday, as she blasted seven aces, three kills and three blocks in the Red Devil volleyball team's four-game district victory (5-21, 25-21, 23-25, 28-26) over Booker.
"Daija was all over the court for us tonight," said Avon Park head coach Stephanie Devlin. "She helped us when we needed it on a night when we, as a team, weren't on top of our game."
Jefmary Moya had 10 assists, while Melissa Tullo had four digs and an ace in a match that was closer than what Devlin would've liked.
"We always seem to get up for and play well against the top teams," Devlin said. "Teams like Sebring and DeSoto are the teams we want to be compared to.
"We didn't play well as a team tonight and our back row is trying to do too much and rely on the girls in the front to make plays. That's something in our game that has to change."
The Devils are back in action tonight when they travel to face arch-rival Sebring. See highlandstoday.com/sports and Saturday's sports section for complete coverage.
After a meeting at Hardee on Oct. 2, Avon Park returns home to face Palmetto on Oct. 7.
