Political advisers tell candidates that to win they must create widespread "name recognition." Mr. Grimming has apparently listened. He and/or his backers have spread his campaign signs all over Highlands County. But, as a voter, I do not know who Mr. Grimming is or what he stands for.
I have several questions for him:
1. Why would you, a total newcomer (here only a year and a half) seek the office of sheriff when you do not know the people, the county or the culture here?
2. How did you already meet so many people and get permission to erect signs on so many private properties, or are many of those signs illegally placed on the road right of way?
3. What are your specific plans to improve our law enforcement program?
4. What makes you qualified to criticize the board of county commission plans for providing a long overdue law enforcement building as part of their multi-year Capital Improvement Program that has been discussed for over three years?
5. Why have you changed jobs and moved so often?
6. Why was your term as director of Florida Highway Patrol so brief?
7. In how many of your former positions did your organization achieve full professional accreditation?
8. Are you trained and experienced in the process of strategic planning and budgeting, a program adopted by the BOCC?
9. Are the local residents who are working so hard and spending so much to see the current sheriff defeated primarily disgruntled former employees of HCSO, as the {lsquo}rumor mill' reports?
10. Do you believe that political party affiliation has or should have any impact on how the county sheriff's office should fulfill its mission? If so, how?
11. Can you list even three specific ways you believe you are a better candidate than the incumbent who has achieved remarkable improvements in the HCSO during her first term?
Yes sir, your name is surely recognized now, but who are you and what do you stand for?
