AVON PARK - Police reported that thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from an ATM machine inside the Walgreens store early Friday morning.
During the burglary an unsuccessful attempt was made to remove the ATM machine located inside the store, said Avon Park Police Chief Matt Doughney in a new release.
"This attempt was facilitated using a stolen 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck," Doughney said. "The truck was stolen from a residence in Sebring."
When the attempt to remove the ATM failed, the burglars went to Plan B and compromised the security devices of the machine and took the cash.
Walgreens security video captured the entire incident as it unfolded, he said.
The stolen truck was found in the Avon Park Lakes subdivision.
Police are looking for anyone who may have information about the crime to call the police department at (863) 453-6622, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
