In Highlands County the recent turnout for voting in the primary election was very low. Nationwide the turnout for even the general elections seldom reaches 40 percent.
When people complain about a current politician the chances are 60 percent that the complainer never voted when the politician was elected. People who see a strong need for change now have a promise of change, first by the Democrats and, belatedly, by the Republicans.
In Highlands registered Republications outnumber registered Democrats, and the Republicans are much better at turning out the voters. There are 9,000 registered Democrats in Highlands who have not voted in the past few elections. If half of those turnout and vote the party ticket the Democrats will probably win. Either way, whatever your party, you have a chance to win, but only if you vote!
