We were blessed with a beautiful morning in Lake Placid. We held our annual 9-11 remembrance program on Sunday, Sept. 7. The turnout was good, not as great as we would like it to be, but we had a very appreciative audience.
It was a time of prayer and reflection. We had lots of great speakers who gave us words of hope and encouragement and made us reflect back in time to that horrible day which we hope and pray will never happen again.
The music was great and the singing was even better and enjoyed by all who were present. We had a special speaker, Brandon Davidson, U.S. Army Specialist E4 who spoke on his tour in Afghanistan. He is a one of our local boys who graduated from Lake Placid High School in 2005. He gave us an insight of the good and the bad that is happening over there. We thank him for taking the time on his furlough to talk to us.
"Amazing Grace" was played on the bagpipes by Robert Campbell and "Taps" was performed by Jonathan Soto of the Lake Placid High School ROTC. The raising of the flag on the "new" pole in front of Heron's Garden Restaurant was performed by Lake Placid American Legion Post 25 as were the posting of the Colors.
If you did not notice we have a "new flag pole" which has been donated by some military organizations. You will hear more about who they are when we have a dedication ceremony for the flag and the marker; we will let you know when. These organizations are proud to be able to put this flag pole up in remembrance of 9-11, but more about this later.
I wish at this time to say thank you to everyone who attended our program. Thanks to all the sponsors who gave their time and talents to help us and all of our Hometown Heroes; your kindness is sincerely appreciated.
If you were not there you missed a very inspiring program. Hopefully we will see you next year. It takes just a little of your time to remember. I am sure we all can afford that.
God bless America and may God bless all of our troops fighting in harm's way and bring an end to this conflict soon. Remember freedom is not free; we fight every day for it.
