LAKE PLACID - Sierra Weaver had 10 kills and Kaneisha Hamilton added three more on Monday to lead the Lake Placid volleyball team to a quick three-set victory over Hardee in preseason action.
The match began early to allow players to compete in LP's powder puff football game, but the Green Dragons rose to the occasion, winning 25-10 in the first set and cruising to 25-16, 25-15 in the last two games to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Elizabeth Berrigan served for 12 of LP's 25 points in the opening game and had four aces, while Weaver had four kills in the opener to get the Dragons started.
"Elizabeth did a wonderful job serving," said LP coach Marilyn Jones, noting Ali Baker had key blocks for the Dragons. "And Sierra was a dominant factor - she's getting better as the time goes on."
Sophomore Libby Goolsby also had a breakout performace: She took over as setter in the final set and "did an outstanding job," according to Jones, who added she had three aces in final game.
The Dragons hosted Fort Meade on Tuesday (see Thursday's Highlands Today for results) and are back in action on Monday, Sept. 15 at Okeechobee.
