SFCC's Corporate And Continuing Education Fall Workshops Set

AVON PARK - South Florida Community College's Corporate and Continuing Education Department is offering a series of workshops this fall.

Those enrolled in Power Tools for Business Writing will learn how to beat writer's block, organize and focus ideas, choose the right words, keep readers interested and present a clear and persuasive message. This workshop meets Tuesdays and Thursday, Sept. 9-18, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost is $159.99.

Closing the Deal-Secrets of Selling will teach participants new ways of dealing with new and old customers including reasons why people choose or do not choose your product, ways of putting people at ease, and ways to master the art of closing. The workshop meets Friday, Sept. 19, 1-5 p.m., and Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $125.

Peer Today, Boss Tomorrow is designed to help participants make a successful transition from coworker to manager or supervisor. Participants will how to address common situations including overcoming the fear of lost friendships and rapport, disciplining a former peer, managing older coworkers, enforcing policies, avoiding favoritism, keeping confidential information confidential, and admitting mistakes in a way that builds trust and credibility with former peers. The workshop meets Thursday-Friday, Sept. 25-26, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $99.

Learn to create company profiles, work with lists, chart accounts, set up items, and track customers, sales, vendors, expenses, and sales tax in Introduction to QuickBooks. The workshop meets Friday, Oct. 10, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $125.

The OSHA Training course will cover OSHA policies, procedure, and standards for the construction industry as well as safety and health principles. Corse topics will include safety programs. Recordkeeping, personal protective equipment, materials handling, tools, electrical, scaffolding, fall protection, cranes and rigging, excavation, and stairways and ladders. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to select the appropriate OSHA standards that apply to a hazard, identify elements of a successful construction safety program, identify the more frequently cited OSHA standards, and implement effective recordkeeping procedures. Participants will also receive a Construction Safety 10-hour course completion card. The course meets Thursday-Friday, Oct. 16-17, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $159.

In Intermediate QuickBooks, participants will learn time tracking, payroll, paying liabilities and taxes, job costing, purchasing and managing, inventory, tracking sales of orders, using financial statements, working with reports, list information and importing and exporting. The workshop meets Friday, Oct 17, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $125.

Glad I Could Help, a customer service workshop, will focus on the most common internal and external customer service situations, both over the phone and face-to-face. Employees will learn how to respond positively in these difficult customer service situations as well as understand what matters most to customers, what they can do to solve a customer's problem, exhibit a "glad I could help you" attitude when dealing with customers, and make sure the customer is left with a positive, memorable impression. The workshop will meet Friday, Oct. 17, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $125.

The Extraordinary Leader will help those who are in leadership roles create an atmosphere of trust in their organization, improve their people skills, understand their own strengths and weaknesses, create values-driven organizations, prepare personal and company mission statements, and understand how failure is the optimum teacher. The workshop will meet Friday, Nov. 14, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $125.
