SEBRING - The Albertson's store in Sebring has closed as Publix Super Markets Inc. prepares to acquire the building on U.S. 27, just north of Sebring Parkway.
Publix announced in June that it had entered into an agreement to purchase 49 Florida stores from Albertson's LLC, according to the Publix Web site.
The transaction is scheduled to close Sept. 8 and includes store locations throughout the state with 15 locations in North Florida, 30 locations in Central Florida and four locations in South Florida.
Maria Brous, spokeswoman for Publix, said she didn't have any information on the reopening of the store. Brous noted some of the stores the Lakeland-based chain is acquiring will need an extensive amount of work.
Publix didn't purchase the gas station located in front of the Albertson's store, she said.
