SEBRING - A Sebring woman and her passengers sustained minor injuries Monday in a head-on collision on State Road 50, which left the passenger in the other car dead and its driver in critical condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Danna Michele Mejias, 26, of Sebring, and Roland Andrews, 25, of Winter Haven were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, in Winter Haven, with minor injuries, along with a 5-year-old Sebring boy.
Betmary Bosque, 19, of Orlando, was critically injured and transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.
Her passenger, Juan Angel Maldonado, 23, of Spring Hill, reportedly died at the scene.
Bosque was eastbound at 8:55 a.m. Monday, on S.R. 50, about a mile east of Clay Sink Road, in Hernando County, when her 1997 Toyota crossed the center line into the path of Mejias' 2003 Dodge sport utility vehicle, FHP reported.
Bosque swerved to the left onto the north shoulder to avoid the SUV. However, Mejias swerved in the same direction and the right front of the Toyota hit the right front and side of the SUV, the report stated.
It was not clear from the report if the passengers in either of the two vehicles were wearing seat belts, and the Florida Highway Patrol was still investigating the crash.
