On Thursday, Aug. 28 I read the article about the Arizona sheriff. I believe this man is right on target. He has saved the taxpayers a lot of money and made the criminals understand they are not in a recreation facility. It should make them think about breaking the law again in his county.
In reference to the new sheriff's office, I agree with the gentleman and some of the other people that have voiced the same thoughts on this issue.
Why can't people in charge find a better way? Who can afford over $11 million to build an office of any kind? Like one reader said, there are vacant buildings that could be used, like the old Kmart building. This is a large vacant space with plenty of parking, and I am sure it would not cost near so much to make it into a beautiful place and it is close to the courthouse and the jail and other law offices. This makes a lot more sense to most of us; I realize we are only the common folk, just taxpayers.
Another article on the same day by Debbie Lees was very informative. I agree with her about not lowering the drinking age to 18. That is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard of. With all the problems it causes, why give our young people the right to kill themselves and others while under the influence of alcohol?
