SEBRING - Someone shot through a couple's car near Cornwell, hitting a man in the arm Monday morning, in an apparent robbery attempt.
Cornwell is east of Lorida, close to the Highlands-Okeechobee county line.
The man, whose identity was not yet known by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, was at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee with a non life-threatening injury Monday.
Sheriff Susan Benton said the victim and an unidentified woman had car troubles.
The two robbers pulled up behind them and asked them if they needed some help, Benton said. Then, the robbers demanded all of their money.
Both the victim and the woman tried to resist, and eventually one of the robbers shot through the driver's side door. The bullet struck the man in his upper arm.
Even though there reportedly were two robbers, it was not known if one or both of them were armed.
The sheriff's office found out about the shooting after getting a call from Raulerson Hospital. By 2 p.m. Monday, deputies were heading to the shooting scene to investigate.
