I am responding to the letter to the editor titled "Grimming Is Unknown" by Steve Ellis. In this letter he refers to Grimming as an "outsider" and Benton as "one of us." I am sick to death of hearing this kind of rhetoric from people.
I have news for you Steve, I might not be from here but my tax rolls tell me different. I pay a ton of taxes as an "outsider," which I think qualifies me as an "insider." In fact, we "outsiders" pay huge amounts of taxes compared to "insiders." I suppose that should mean that my vote should count more than yours if you follow your logic.
Your type of thinking speaks volumes and belittles those who move here to Highlands County. Are we welcome or not? Will we always be "outsiders?" How much time do we need to live here to qualify as an "insider"? Are "outsiders" not qualified to vote in a local election? What makes you the judge and jury about who should be elected Steve?
As far as the election is concerned, I don't know who I will vote for, but I will make the decision about who to vote for by their platform and their record. Not just because they are from here and are considered "insiders."
