LAKE PLACID - Lennard 20, Lake Placid 17
After jumping ahead by two touchdowns early, Lennard survived a fierce Lake Placid comeback on Friday night and hung on for a 20-17 Class 2A-District 5 victory at Roger Scarborough Memorial Field.
The Longhorns scored on their first two drives of the game and converted a crucial fourth-down play on their own 28-yard line late in the fourth quarter. They scored on a 15-yard pass with 2:28 left in the game and watched a 57-yard Green Dragon field goal attempt fall short in the waning seconds to seal the win.
Avery Young scored for LP on a 27-yard reverse that followed a 32-yard screen pass. Anthony Gonzales added 64-yard punt return for a touchdown and Steven Guelff kicked a 34-yard field goal for LP.
