In response to the answer of my last letter written on Oct. 9, where I was offering a basic Spanish course to deputies of Highlands County, and my disappointment with Sheriff Benton when I had to wait five weeks to see her and on the day of the appointment I didn't get to see her anyway, Mayr Malool defended the sheriff by saying that the sheriff was busy trying to catch a cop killer. This is an absolute untruth. I was in Highlands County when that tragedy took place. There was no manhunt going on on the day I was supposed to see the sheriff.
I don't know Mayr Malool but I do know that when an officer has four or five illegals stopped at 3 a.m. and they are saying "Jump him-her, grab him-her or grab his-her gun, and the officer doesn't understand these alert words, it is dangerous.
What is this person talking about when they say "Spanish speakers should learn English?" What in the world does this have to do with my officer safety course?
The fact that I am a part-time resident evidentially makes me a second class citizen in this person's eyes and the fact that I am not a registered voter in Highlands County makes me worse.
Ron Grimming is without a doubt one of the most honest, professional law enforcement officers I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and he is an excellent administrator.
Mayr Malool should get the facts and the truth together before sending letters to the editor.
