Dragons Roll Past Bulldogs

FROSTPROOF - Sierra Weaver went 15-for-15 on serves with seven aces, four kills, three blocks and 15 digs to lead the Lake Placid volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-10. 25-17 sweep over Frostproof in a Class 3A-District 10 match-up on Tuesday night.

"The girls really had to stay focused and play together last night," LP head coach Marilyn Jones said. "The games were more contested than the scores dictate."

Tiffany Bisbey finished with six kills and seven blocks, while Amanda Dixon came off the bench to chip in six aces and six digs and senior Kaneisha Hamilton had three kills and 11 digs in the win over the Bulldogs.

Sebring Swimming

LAKELAND - Bryan Kirsch darted through the pool to take first place (1:08.81) in the 100-yard breaststroke as the Sebring Blue Streaks took second place in the five-team Lakeland Invitational on Tuesday.

Senior Megan Wolfe took second (1:15.97) while teammate Paige Giller place third (1:16.75) in the 100-yard breaststroke and Michelle Bash took the silver (1:16.69) in the 100-yard freestyle event.

Brian Miller continued his impressive season by taking the gold (1:04.78) in the 100-yard butterfly, while teammate Josh Heflin took first (56.62) in the 100-yard freestyle by just .01 seconds.

Julie Kirsch placed second (1:02.56) in the 100-yard freestyle and Katie Bullard finished in third (2:31.04) in the 200-yard freestyle, while Mathew Thompson placed third (2:34.00) in the 200-yard freestyle at the invitational.

SFCC Volleyball

BRADENTON - The Manatee volleyball team came out to play on sophomore night, as the Lancers dispatched South Florida Community College 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 to keep the Panthers winless in the Suncoast Conference this season.

"Manatee was really pumped up tonight and our girls came out with no sense of urgency," SFCC assistant coach Charlotte Bauder said. "This seems to be a recurring storyline for our team this season."

The Panthers will honor the sophomore's at tonight's home game against Florida College. Game time is 7 p.m.

Avon Park Boys Golf

LAKE REGION - The Avon Park boys golf team cruised past All-Saints by a score of 159 to 177 at Lake Region Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Clay Davis earned medalist honors with a 36, sophomore Greg Gentry carded a 37, John Tracey had a 42 and Austin Smith rounded out the Red Devils team score with a 44.

This was the last regular season match for Avon Park, which improved to 9-1.

"The boys have worked hard to improve and we've had a great season," said veteran Red Devil coach Bobby Barben. "We've got the district tournament next week and we're going to fine-tune our games the next few days."

Avon Park competes in the Class 1A-District 16 tournament at The Links at Greenfield Plantation on Monday, with only the top three teams advancing to the regionals.

"We've got our work cut out for us because we're in a real tough district with lots of private schools," Barben said. "But our guys have the talent and ability to compete with anyone, it's just a matter of staying focused and keeping the ball in play.

"The Links is a very tight course with lots of water and we've got to stay away from double bogeys if we want to shoot a good score."

Avon Park Girls Golf

Avon Park rolled to an easy win on Tuesday against Lake Region. Sarah Hunnicutt led the way with a 52, Katelynn Stoll shot a 62, Angela Bateman had a 66 and Brittany Scranton turned in a 73.

The win improved the Red Devils to 12-1-1 n the season.

"We didn't play our best, but we got the win," said first-year Avon Park coach Suzie Gentry. "It took three hours to play nine holes, but the girls hung in there and got the job done."

Sebring Boys Golf

CELEBRATION - The Sebring boys golf team managed to complete three holes before rain cancelled the match against Celebration.

"We were doing well when the rain started coming down," said first-year Blue Streak coach Vince Liles. "We are playing well as a team and we've still got room for improvement."
