I am a retired police chief from a major city. I reside in Highlands County and have been listening and reading about the conflicts within the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.
I am very concerned about the current sheriff's mismanagement of the budget and the conflict between the sheriff and other elected officials.
In conversation with some of the deputies, I have learned there is dissatisfaction with the current leadership. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thoughts to the voters of Highlands County.
Sometime ago I met Ron Grimming, former director of the Florida Highway Patrol and deputy director of Illinois State Police.
I am very impressed with his proven leadership abilities and administrative skills. We are very fortunate to have a person of this caliber willing to serve as sheriff for Highlands County.
He will bring a fresh approach to the leadership of the sheriff's office. I ask the voters to take a close look at his qualifications. It is a real opportunity to bring such a leader to the position of sheriff of Highlands County.
