Published: October 4, 2008

LAKE PLACID A Lake Placid man was free on $1,500 bail Friday after he was stopped by Lake Placid Police for a defective brake light and it was discovered the Toyota Camry he was driving was stolen from West Palm Beach.
Police also discovered marijuana hidden in a Barbasol shaving cream can with a false bottom, according to the arrest report.
David Jonathan Adams, 20, of 1239 County Road 29, was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and grand theft auto.
A rear male passenger seen fidgeting about where the shaving cream can was found was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
A female passenger was not arrested.
Police officer Eddie San Miguel reported he spotted the car Tuesday night in the area of Catfish Creek Road and made the actual stop near Lake Placid Town Hall.
The driver, Adams, appeared to be glassy-eyed, but was able to pass the field sobriety test. He did admit to smoking marijuana but never gave the officer a time frame as to when or where he may have done so, the report stated.
A Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Williams and his K-9 partner Boss, checked around the car. There was a "confirmed hit," indicating the presence of drugs.
The driver and passengers were asked to exit the vehicle. After a search was finished, San Miguel discovered the Barbasol can under the rear passenger side seat.
As he turned the bottom of the can, the bottom fell out and he found a plastic bag partially sticking out.
