Published: October 4, 2008

SEBRING - With the district tournament just two weeks away, the Sebring boys and girls golf teams continue to show improvement.

The Blue Streaks boys shot a four-person team score of 157 for nine holes in Thursday's tri-match against Bartow and Lakeland at Sun "N Lake Country Club.

Lakeland won the match with a team score of 155, while Bartow and Sebring tied at 157 over the back nine of the Deer Run course.

"I'm real pleased with the way we're playing," said first-year Blue Streak coach Vince Liles. "The guys have been working hard on their games and it's beginning to pay off.

"Lakeland and Bartow are the top teams in our district, and now that we've played them a few times, we know we're just as good as they are."

Junior Blake Liles led the way for Sebring with a 1-over 37, sophomore Tyler Sanders had a season-best 38, senior John Vicker Jr. carded a 40 and Zach Foster and Sean Garner each shot 42.

"Blake had a solid round with one birdie," said coach Liles. "He's been our most consistent player this season and is someone we count on.

"Tyler has been hitting the ball well, and it's good to see him shooting a low score."

The Blue Streak girls hosted Lakeland at Sebring Golf Club on Thursday and shot a team score of 183, while Lakeland George Jenkins shot a 175.

Senior Priscilla Adams led the way with a 40, junior Camiel White had a 43, freshman Lindsey Lovett carded a 45 and Savana Fisher, Jamie Hershkowitz and Kelsie Allen each shot a 55.

Anna Hancock of Jenkins won medalist honors with an impressive 4-under 32.

The Sebring girls are back on the links on Monday when they compete in the Polk County Invitational, while the Blue Streak boys are in action today in the Bishop Moore Invitational in Orlando.

"There should be some good competition at the Bishop Moore tournament," coach Liles said. "We've got two weeks until the district tournament and we want to hone our games and be playing our best when that comes around."

The Class 2A Blue Streaks compete in their district tournament on Oct. 13 at Imperial Lakes Country Club in Lakeland.

"The Imperial Lakes course is tough with lots of water," the Sebring coach said. "We've played that course several times and we're familiar with where the trouble is.

"Our goal is to qualify for regionals and it's just a matter of us staying focused and playing up to our capabilities the day of the district tournament."
