I have completed reading "Enforcing the Law" in the Nov. 25 issue of your paper, and would like to make the following observations.
Although Sheriff Susan Benton may have had some mysterious events during her past term, I do not believe that you can chastise her on a Florida Statute that you have interpreted incorrectly.
As the writer had quoted, F.S. 316.089 states in part: "Upon a roadway which is divided into three lanes and provided for two way movement of traffic." We here in Highlands County have two-lane roads, four-lane roads, and six-lane roads for commuting between Lake Placid and Avon Park. We do not have any three-lane roads (for two-way traffic) that could be utilized for that journey.
I shudder to think of the devastating consequences of "the heavy trucks which I have seen travel from Avon Park to Lake Placid entirely in the third lane." It is obvious the outcome would be a head on collision. It is better to not say anything and appear... Oh, never mind!
