Cards For Wounded Warriors

Published: November 27, 2008

As District 8 president for the American Legion Auxiliary, I have been receiving many calls on how to get Christmas cards and phone cards for our wounded warriors to be able to call home for the holidays.

I just got a communication from our department Americanism chairman who said please send cards, letters, phone cards etc. to our wounded warriors at Walter Reed and other facilities through the Red Cross with the following address: Holiday Mail to Heroes P.O. Box 5456 Capital Heights, Md. 20791-5456. The greetings from you will mean more to these veterans than you will ever know. Please get mail sent by Dec. 10, to get there on time.

Also for five years, since the war began, there has been a Wounded Warriors Workshop in Orlando and on Dec. 7 from noon to five, warriors and families will be flying into Orlando airport with their families, approximately 150, and we invite you to join the American Legion family to greet them and let them know we care.

Anyone wanting more details, should call Darlene Watkin at 314-9107, or if you can't go and you want to donate toward welcome goodies, we would welcome your donations. Remember this is the season and to these special people we should all take a moment to let them know we care and appreciate their sacrifices.

Darlene K. Watkin
District 8 President
