A recent review (not in Highlands Today) was very unfair and very misleading with regards to the comments made about the production of "Beauty and the Beast" at Highlands Little Theatre. I sincerely hope that the review did not cost Highlands Little Theatre and the "Beauty and the Beast" performers any revenue from lost ticket sales.
Though the article did not directly criticize the cast, using words such as "nice," "able abetted" to describe cast members was not complimentary either. The writer took aim at rather criticizing the play itself in that he stated that it lost its magic due to there being real performers. What he expected we can only guess.
Anyone who could not see the magic created by these performers who are the everyday people of our community in our workplaces and schools has my sympathy as they are missing a lot of what is going on around them. The talent in this community from the director to the ensemble is amazing in itself and then to see the dedication and work that is put into this type of production purely for the love of the art and the entertainment of the community is very admirable.
The talent of the singing voices to the impressive choreography and the more than impeccable co-ordination and fluidity of the dance routines made for a wonderful evening. Bravo and a standing ovation from me (and all of those who attended the performance on Nov. 14) to each and every member of Highlands Little Theatre — cast, directors, producers, backstage crew and all the other volunteers. Keep up the wonderful work and thank-you for your dedication and for sharing your talents with us.
