Devils Roll Past 'Cats

EAGLE LAKE - Johnequa Perry scored 12 points and Chantel Hugley chipped in 10 more on Thursday, as Avon Park pummeled Hardee 39-10 in the final day of the Lake Region Preseason Classic.

"We're really just trying to work on chemistry right now during preseason," said AP head coach Paulette Daley. "We've been playing good, but we still need to fine tune some things before we face Sebring."

Senior Daija Barrett finished the game with nine points.

The Red Devils open the regular season on Tuesday when they travel archrival Sebring for an afternoon meeting. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lemon Bay 50, Lake Placid 10

ARCADIA - The young Lake Placid squad again struggled to put points on the board on Thursday night as Lemon Bay cruised to a 50-10 victory over the Dragons at the DeSoto preseason tournament.

The Dragons are back in action on Monday, when they host LaBelle.

GIRLS SOCCER: Lake Placid 4, Clewiston 4

CLEWISTON - The Lake Placid girls soccer team started its season off with a 4-4 tie with Clewiston on Thursday night. The Dragons are back in action on Tuesday, when host LaBelle. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER: Palmetto 8, Avon Park 0

PALMETTO - Avon Park has been working hard in practice, but was unable to put points on the board, as they were shutout by the Palmetto Tigers on Wednesday.

"We're working hard and getting better every day," AP head coach Jocelyn Simplice said. "We just have to continue to play hard and the wins will come."

The Red Devils are back on the field Tuesday, when they travel to face DeSoto. Kick-off is 6 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER: Palmetto 8, Avon Park 0

PALMETTO - The Avon Park boys ran into a tough Palmetto squad and fell 8-0 on Wednesday night. The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to DeSoto. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
