AVON PARK - AVON PARK – Teddy Allen took on the role of workhorse for Avon Park, as the junior tailback ran the ball 30 times for 131 yards, but three turnovers led to 21 Palmetto points in a 31-0 season-ending loss for the Red Devils at Joe Franza Stadium on Friday.
Palmetto quarterback Ethan Gilbert had a subpar game as he was flushed out of the pocket by the swarming Avon Park defense. Gilbert finished the night 7 for 14 for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Avon Park freshman JD Hardy started at quarterback for the injured Albert Moses and looked good at times, completing back-to-back 12-yard gains to sophomore receiver Alonzo Robertson.
With the win over Avon Park (2-8), Palmetto (8-2) stays undefeated on the road this season and move on to the Class 3A-Region 3 quarterfinals next week against Braden River, while Avon Park was held to under 10 points for the eighth time this season.
