SEBRING - A Sebring Middle School student was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of a weapon on school property after he was allegedly found in possession of a razor blade.
The 14-year-old student was taken to Sebring Police Department Officer Wilma Tindell's office by school paraprofessional Harry "Bud" Young, according to the arrest report. Young told the officer that students informed him the subject had the weapon while in the gym.
The student reportedly took the razor blade out of his right front pocket and said it was in his possession because he forgot he had it.
He went on to say he found the blade two days ago and had used it the previous night to cut some bushes. Once he was finished with the chore, the subject told police he put the blade back in his pants pocket. He wore the same pants to school on Wednesday and didn't realize the blade was still in the pocket until he was in P.E., the report stated.
When he put his hand in his pocket in search of a dollar, the student said he poked himself with the blade. He planned to throw it away, but was afraid someone would he see him doing it and tell on him.
The subject then showed his friend and another student the blade and tried to get them to dispose of it, which they refused, the report stated.
Officers arrested the student based on several other incidents where he allegedly threatened to cut school board employees. Police contacted the Department of Juvenile Justice, who said the subject would be transported to the Bartow Detention Center once he was booked in.
