LAKE PLACID - Making free throws looks easy, but it takes a lot of skill.
Just ask the many youngsters who tried their hand from the charity stripe on Saturday.
The annual Lake Placid Elks hoop shoot was held at Lake Placid Middle School and a number of youngsters ages 8-13, came out to show off their ability and make some baskets.
Each of the participants were allowed time to practice before the actual competition began and that helped them to get over being a little nervous.
In the girls 8-9 age group, Kelcie Rodriguez finished first, while Reginald Jones Jr. won the boys 8-9 competition and William Cooper was the runner-up.
Jenny Herstein finished first in the girls 10-11 division, Jordan Strickland won the boys 10-11 bracket, while Jygwan Rooks placed second and Cameron Rodriguez came in third.
Norma Pratts won the girls 12-13 age group, Nathan Stanley finished first in the boys 12-13 division, while Jerry Fields placed second and Maurice Wilson Jr. finished third.
First-place finishers advanced to the district championship which will be held Jan. 17 at Lake Placid Middle School.
Winners at the district competition move on to the regional event and hopefully the state finals.
