SEBRING - The tour to promote the region to site selection consultants in an attempt to bring better jobs to the Heartland has been postponed at least until next year.
Florida's Heartland Economic Development Initiative and county economic development organizations have been working on a three-day event that was originally scheduled fir early December.
Jim Otterman, executive director of FHREDI, said a new date has yet to be determined. The event might be delayed until 2010.
Otterman noted that six consultants had confirmed their attendance. However, three have called to say they had scheduling conflicts.
"We want it to be a success," Otterman said.
Otterman said the plan was to have the consultants spend three days in the region, which includes Highlands, Hardee, Okeechobee, DeSoto, Glades and Hendry counties as well as the communities of Belle Glade, Pahokee, South Bay and Immokalee. The tour might be reduced to two days and coincide with a sports event.
In planning the event, Otterman said he intends to contact Florida's Great Northwest Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development that regularly conducts tours for site selection consultants.
The organization covers a 16-county region in the Florida Panhandle that includes Pensacola, Panama City and Tallahassee.
