SEBRING Two motorists were transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center following a two-vehicle accident late Friday morning.
The crash occurred at 11:47 at intersection of Hammock Road and U.S. 27 in Sebring. Lillian Byers, 93, of 3220 Las Vegas Blvd., Sebring, was southbound on U.S. in a 2000 Chevy when the car went through the red light at Hammock Road.
Byers' vehicle struck a 2000 Ford, driven by Alfredo Martin, 31, of 6232 County Road 17 S, Sebring, which was crossing onto the northbound lane of U.S. 27 from Hammock Road, according to the Sebring Police Department.
Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to extract the drivers from the vehicles. Both were transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center. Calls to hospital personnel seeking information on their condition were not returned before press time.
Damage to Byers' vehicle was estimated at $12,000, while Martin's Ford suffered $10,000 in damages from the collision.
Byers estimated speed at the time of the accident was 50 miles per hour, while Martin had an estimated speed of 25 mph, according to the accident report.
