AVON PARK — A Sebring man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond Thursday, after he was arrested on a warrant in connection with a joint drug sting conducted by Avon Park and Lake Wales police departments.
Michael Lamar Williams, 25, also known as Michael Lamar Small, Michael Williams and Michael Pye, of 1618 Penny Ave., Sebring, (according to Highlands County Sheriff's Booking) or of 171 E. Rainbow St., Avon Park (according to the arrest report), on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a church and sale of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a church.
Undercover Lake Wales Police detectives reported that on Feb. 1 they were driving in the 800 block of South Delaney Avenue when they were flagged down by buy $20 worth of "green or tree," a common street-level name for marijuana.
Williams reportedly left and brought back four small blue baggies. One of the detectives handed Williams the money and Williams handed the detective the pot, the report stated. The marijuana weighed 6 grams.
Stolen Truck Recovered, Suspect Arrested
LAKE PLACID — An Avon Park man was arrested after police say he was in possession of a GMC Sonoma truck stolen on May 24 from a residence in Avon Park.
Corey Torrell Lewis, 26, of 447 W. Billy Hill Road, was charged with third-degree grand theft of a motor vehicle.
During a traffic stop in the 100 block of U.S. 27 South, sheriff's deputies pulled over the truck, which was being driven by a 19 year old Lake Placid man. A 19-year-old Avon Park woman was also a passenger in the truck.
Paul told deputies he was driving because neither Lewis or the 19-year-old female had valid driver's licenses.
The female told investigators that Lewis and another suspect came to her home earlier in the day with the truck, then left. Lewis returned later with the truck and gave her a ride to pick up the 19 year old Lake Placid man.
Lewis told investigators he got the truck from the other suspect. It was unclear if the second suspect would be arrested. However, the information has been forwarded to the Avon Park Police Department for further investigation.
The truck was returned to its rightful owners.
Woman Charged With Beating Pregnant Woman, Teenager
SEBRING — A sheriff's deputy reported a Sebring woman was arrested after beating a pregnant woman and later punching a teenager in the head when they argued over the first fight.
Brandy Dion Gomez, 28, also known as Brandy Dion Weeks, was charged separately with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman when she should have known the victim was pregnant and cruelty toward a child.
According to the arrest reports, at about 3:06 a.m. on May 23, Gomez got into a verbal argument with a 19-year-old woman who is six-months pregnant. The argument escalated into a physical battle when she struck the victim numerous times in the stomach and face, the report stated.
The victim reportedly was yelling at her to stop yelling that she was pregnant. Gomez reportedly continued to fight until her boyfriend "diverted her attention."
After that fight, Gomez reportedly got into it with a 17-year-old boy and began to punch him in his head and body, the report stated. The boy suffered no visible injuries, the report stated.
Gomez was intoxicated at the time, according to the report.
