AVON PARK — An Avon Park woman remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bond Wednesday, after police charged her with punching and robbing her ex in the parking lot of the Hendricks Corner grocery store.

Cara Anne Parnell, 31, of 906 Palmer Ave., was booked on charges of robbery and domestic violence battery (with a previous conviction for domestic battery).

The 57-year-old victim, an Avon Park resident living at a different address, reported that at about 8 a.m. Saturday, he was parked along the west side of Hendricks and was standing at his driver's side door, when Parnell got out of a blue vehicle and walked up to him demanding money, the report stated.

The victim refused and was punched in his neck. Parnell walked away, but returned demanding money again. He told her he wasn't giving her any, the report stated.

She then reached into his van toward their child, who was sitting in the driver's seat. The victim put his arm between her and the child, he reportedly told police.

Parnell punched the victim in the mouth three times and pulled $17 from the victim's pants pocket, the report stated. This incident was witnessed by a third person in the front passenger seat, who refused to provide police with a sworn, taped statement.

Police did not see indications the victim had been hit, the report stated.

Parnell was released from Lowell Correctional Institution on Nov. 17, 2007 after serving four years for cocaine possession and sales.

Her jail history shows numerous arrests in Highlands County on charges of illegal drug possession, burglary, grand theft, shoplifting, resisting a merchant, domestic violence, contempt of court and traffic citations dating back to 1996.

Man Robbed On Main Street, Police Say
AVON PARK — An Avon Park man was robbed while walking down East Main Street on Friday evening after he cashed his pay check, said Avon Park Police Sgt. Jason Lister.

The victim, 23, was walking near the 100 block of east Main counting his money when a Hispanic man with a heavy build, dressed in a yellow shirt and black pants, asked him if he could make change, police said.

The man reportedly grabbed the undisclosed amount of cash and ran north on Lake Avenue, Lister said. It was not clear where the victim had cashed his check or if the robbery suspect got all of his money.

The crime was reported to police at 8:04 p.m., Lister said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Avon Park Police Department's criminal investigations division at 863-453-6622.
