Free Seminar Planned On Starting Small Business
SEBRING — The Small Business Development Center of the Heartland will present a free seminar titled "Steps To Start A Small Business." It will be held Wednesday, May 28 at the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, 227 U.S. 27 N., in Sebring from 2 to 4 p.m.

The seminar will be taught by Bill McKown, certified business analyst with the SBDC. It is designed for persons thinking of starting a small business, or who have started a business, and want to make sure they did it correctly. Licenses, marketing and business plans are among the items discussed.

Grower Meeting Planned On Ethanol Production
SEBRING — Growers are invited to learn about the sweet sorghum and sugar cane production for ethanol at a meeting from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at the Highlands County Agri-Civic Center, 4509 George Blvd., in Sebring.

United States EnviroFuels LLC will make a presentation on the proposed sugar-to-ethanol plant facility for Highlands County, sweet sorghum as a crop for ethanol production and long-time grower supply contracts.

C&C Title Services MovesSouth Sebring Office
SEBRING — C&C Title Services has moved its south Sebring office to 811 U.S. 27 S., next to Sonny's.

Its hours are 8:30 a.m.– 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment Saturday.

C&C's other office is located in the Century 21 building at 1843 U.S. 27 N. in Sebring.

Mobile One-Stop Unit To Visit Post 25
LAKE PLACID — The Heartland Workforce Mobile One-Stop Unit will be parked at American Legion Post 25, 1490 U.S. 27 N., in Lake Placid from 1 – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28.

Highlands County veterans are invited to visit the unit to learn about job opportunities.

Scholarship Winners
WAUCHULA — Robert E. "Bob" Hanchey, president of Wauchula State Bank, has announced the 2008 Wauchula State Bank College Scholarship recipients.

Receiving the $500 scholarship are: James Olliff and Kyle Cobb of Hardee High School, Fred Mixon Jr. of Avon Park High School, Kayla Griffin of Sebring High School and Sarah Norris of Lake Placid High School.

Shepards Attend Real Estate Conference
SEBRING — Bob and Betsy Shepard, owners of Ridge Real Estate, recently attended the 2008 Leading Real Estate Companies of the World conference at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.

Approximately 800 real estate brokers, managers, relocation professionals, sponsors and guests from the U.S. and 11 countries participated in the annual event.

The keynote speaker was Joseph Michelli, best-selling author of "The Starbucks Experience: 5 Principles for Turning Ordinary to Extraordinary," who shared insights on "Creating the Total Customer Experience."

"It was great to be among the largest real estate companies and leaders in the United States," Bob Shepard said. "The professionals they had there in the technology tract were fantastic."
